Greetings from Krazy Kamiah

Hello Hello Hello all,

I have been officially sent out to my area. Or maybe banished is a better word because it's about 3-4 hours from the mission home, haha! I'm in a small town called Kamiah, Idaho. It's a town that is on the Nez Perce Indian Reserve. Kamiah (cam-ee-eye) has just over a thousand people. The town adjacent is called Kooskia (koos-kee) and has about 600 people. The town adjacent to that is called Stites and has 200 people and a bunch of burned down houses. It's a pretty sketchy place so we don't go over there much. Kamiah is the part of the mission where you go to get stories. Crap goes down here apparently. Quite a few apostate and excommunicated members out here that just kind of think and do their own thing. But man, there are some cool areas up here. There's a road that we go up to get milk from a 7th Day farmer that is really cool! And the milk we get is legit milk. None of this store bought junk. It's unpasteurized, raw milk. The whole milk you get from the store has got nothing on this. J.K. It's really not THAT different but it makes me feel cool drinking it, haha!

My trainer is Elder Lofgren. He has only been out on his mission since February but he is a pretty cool guy and we get along nice. Apparently the work out here is a little different. The town area is small and is pretty easy to track out and then everything else is so spread out so we do that very very little. Most of what we do is go around to less actives and investigators to check up on them and see if they need service. Lots of service. Because everything is so spread out it's hard to see lots of people. But hey, our mission car? It's a 2017 Tacoma and we need it, let me tell ya because it's rugged out here in some spots. There are TONS of deer out here. The little vermin are all over the roads.

It's definetly (I still don't know how to spell that word, if anyone wants to help me out that would be great, hahaha!) different around here. A big culture shock which I wasn't expecting, but our ward mission leader said "the people may be different than what you're used to in Mormon-ville, but they're just people. It's all about the love you have for them."

P.S. The eclipse was a rip off. At least from where we are. Apparently it was happening and we didn't even know. But it did get a little cooler.

Love to all!

(From Jen): Here's a fun little video I found about Kamiah!

  1. He's in his first area! It looks like a prettier town then I pictured in my mind for being on an Indian reservation. I looked at the map and we are only 4.5 hours away from him. And a couple weeks we're going to McCall, two hours north and will be that much closer to him. If we continued on we would run right into them. So crazy! Loving his letters and loving this blog! Thanks so much Jenny!
