Soooo a mission teaches you to appreciate the finer things in
life...like a bathroom that doesn't try to drown you. Or air. Our
plumbing has been wonky lately and so for the past week we have had to
go to our ward mission leader's auction property where he has some porta potties we can use. For the past week the smoke has been super bad
in our area (red flag conditions, whatever that means) so we've been
told to not go outside if we can help it (we got that text while we were
working outside so...). The plumber finally came today and the
smoke started to clear so we can go outside again. So count your
blessings at home, kids.

This week has actually been
full of a ton of driving. We've been going back and forth to Lewiston
and driving up and back from Spokane once and we'll be going to Lewiston
again
tomorrow for zone conference. We went up to Spokane for the new missionary training. It was
on Friday morning, but because we're so far away we drove up
on Thursday
and stayed the night in the presidential suite (mission home). Sister
Dymock is officially awesome b.t.w. We got to the mission home around
10:00
and she stayed up and made us toast and just talked with us for a
while. The next morning we went to the training and President blew our
minds with some doctrine as he does. He knows so much about the
scriptures and all sorts of historical context and everything and
whenever he teaches you're mind is blown but you love it! We have
recently been issued the challenge to read the Book of Mormon by the
end of the year and use it more in our teaching. Something President
has said a number of times is the Book of Mormon is not only a tool in
our conversion, but it is a tool that teaches us how to convert. He also
emphasized that the scriptures are the word of God and are therefore
not subject to time. The stories are ancient but the principles and
truths that are contained in them are timeless and should be likened to
our day. He said that once you start to use the scriptures to their full
potential, an hour of study a day (which is what missionaries do) is
not enough and I can testify of that!
An
update on some of our investigators. It turns out Kyle was baptized a
number of years ago but he hasn't received the priesthood yet. As far as
lessons we can teach him we don't really have any but we had a good
dinner with him a while ago and hopefully we can encourage him to
continue to progress in the priesthood. He has left for a job for the
month though so I won't be able to give any updates on him for now.
We
contacted a guy named Tyler who was a former investigator and are
waiting for a response from him. He had met with missionaries a while
ago and seemed to be progressing, but nothing came of it. We texted him
and he asked us if he could ask a few questions. We said absolutely but
he hasn't replied yet. We'll see where that goes.
We
also set up a service/lesson with an older couple named Hillair and Jo.
They are really sweet and nice. Elder Lofgren and his companion before
me met with them once and taught about the Book of Mormon and they
accepted it and have been reading. They are well studied in the bible
but seem to be open to the idea of the Book of Mormon. They have some
questions that hopefully we can answer for them.
Well, that's all for now. Work is slow but steady. In time things will pick up I'm sure. Love to all back home.
Elder Herd
