Konference and Peanut Butter Soup

Was conference good or what? Yee yee. I normally don't have any huge talks that stick out to me when I watch conference because it's always so much to take in, but I like to find themes for the conference as a whole until I can read and study the talks individually. For me there were three main themes of conference: Service, spiritual healing and improvement, and not falling pray to worldly influences. Something that seemed to tie them all together was intense emphases on Book of Mormon study and following prophets. I felt like President Nelson's talk combined with Tad R. Callister was very powerful. I loved the points Nelson made about the Book of Mormon. What would my life be like without the knowledge of the Book of Mormon? I don't want to know.

The Book of Mormon really is pivotal to everything the Church claims. When we come to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon we come to know that God still calls prophets today and that modern day revelation is real. Without those things what would we claim to have as a church? Nothing. Either the first vision happened or it didn't. It is crucial that we find these things out for ourselves. I know personally my life has been blessed by the Book of Mormon, probably in ways I don't fully understand, but reading it daily is honestly one of the highlights of my day.

So, other than conference nothing super earth shattering to report. Vicki hasn't been keeping commitments and based upon what she said we're not sure how far we'll go with her but we'll keep at it. Tom the Man brought Jesse to the Sunday sessions of conference and he'd like to talk more sometime. Elder Davis is pretty chill and we get along well. Apparently I need to report more information on my companions sooo Elder Davis is from Payson, Utah and has been out for about 11 months. And no, Elder Lofgren was not from Scandinavia. His family immigrated from there a few generations back, but he was from Mountain Green, Utah (near Snowbasin).

Something fun that we did yesterday. Elder Davis in his last area knew an African man and we made one of his recipes for dinner. It's called peanut butter soup. Basically you make a stew of water and peanut butter mixed with some onions and peppers and different spices of your liking and then just chuck in some meats (we only had some beef jerky) and then pour all that over some rice and ta-dah. It actually wasn't terrible although it would've been better if we actually knew how to cook rice properly and used meat that wasn't beef jerky from Costco that has been sitting in the fridge for about 5 weeks. But, we just forget those things...

Love to all from up the river.
