So
it has been an eventful week. Partially because Kamiah is broken, haha!
We had some massive wind storms the first of the week that blew over so
many branches and trees in the road and on houses it wasn't even funny.
We were helping people clean up for quite a while. It also knocked out
power in the evenings for two nights in a row. What's weird is our
water comes from electric pumps...sooo we had to go up to a mountain
spring to get water and that was pretty dang cool, not going to lie, haha! There have been fires all around so the air has been nasty
smoky but the wind cleared a lot of it out.
I
also moved some horses to pasture this week with my bare hands (and a
lead, but it sounds cooler saying I man handled a horse). Last P-day we
went and toured around the Dworshak Dam and Reservoir and that was
pretty dang cool! The elders in Orofino are not too far away and we have
a lot of fun with them. Also, Elder Lofgren tried to sell me an
imaginary mattress last night in his sleep.
A'ight, on to more meaningful things. So every labor day weekend Kamiah does
what is called BBQ Days where a bunch of vendors come out and set some
stuff up and there is a parade and all sorts of stuff like that. So, anyway we got the whole zone together and set up a little booth where we
were talking to people and (tried to) give some people pamphlets and
Books of Mormon and things. Didn't get a whole lot of things out or have
many people talk to us, but anything is good I suppose. We got anti'd a
few times. One was funny and one was kind of frustrating. The one that
was funny is this lady just walks by our booth and says "three times
three to every last one of you." ....Wha? Haha, none of us knew what that
meant and had a good laugh about it. Apparently 9 is the Hebrew
number for good posterity so that was nice of her to say that, haha. But, the other one was a couple that came over and was totally baiting us
with their "doctrinal traps." How are we saved? Your Jesus is different
than ours because of this and that and this. When you would simply
explain and clarify what we believe they would shake their head and say,
"nope, nope, that's not right." The usual anti. They know just what
they're doing. It's frustrating to think that there are people out there
who feel the desire to bash a bunch of teenagers, but it's all good. I
was thinking and recently read the scripture that says there must be
opposition in all things. Saints have always had to deal with
persecution, but that doesn't mean that what we believe in is wrong or
false. If anything it affirms the truthfulness of what we believe and
teach. So power through the pain and find moments along the way to
laugh!
Love to all,
Elder Herd

P.S. Pictures this week are pretty dang sweet if I do say so myself. We think we're pretty cool.
P.P.S. We found the lower half of an elk leg in the middle of the road today and put it in the bed of the truck and later we hooked it to the Sister's bike rack on their car. We told them to go check it. Don't worry, haha! It was pretty funny.
Elker Herd - haha, in honor of the elk leg. Keep up the good work, fella. And the next time you get anti'd, just ask the person to tell you what they believe, and compliment them on their knowledge of the Bible. Let them explain first, and just congratulate them on their efforts. Be that missionary they can't "get."
