I Didn't Choose the Shack Life, the Shack Life Chose Me

Listen up for story time y'all because I've got a good one. Psych, it's really not that crazy but note worthy all the same.

So, like I said last week I got transferred to Chewelah Washington. We hopped on the Transfer Van in Moscow and drove up to Spokane where I met up with my new companion  Elder Fisher and smashed both of our stuff into the back of a Rav4 (no Tacoma anymore...so sad) and drove up to Chewelah. We roll up to the "apartment" at about 9 at night...and I realized why the missionaries call the place "The Shack". It's about 7 yards at the longest point and about 5 yards wide. And it's not until we get there at 9 at night that we don't actually have the keys to open the door...Spokane is an hour or more away and the office is closed anyway. We tried all the windows and they are all locked. So we had to call up the zone leaders up in Colville and stay with them in their four man trailer. That was actually a blast though because I finally got to meet the one, the only Elder Miner. He's the hick that Elder Lofgren was companions with before me and the reason we all got 30' ropes (oops). He's super funny and Elder Collins is the other zone leader up here and both Collins and Miner served in Kamiah right before me so we had some good chats. Elder Miner also accidentally wacked the top of their only portable heater with a baseball bat and it sparked and started making weird noises. We tried to fix it with bag balm. Didn't work.

So after sleeping on an eggshell mat on the floor of a trailer using my jacket as a pillow we got up the next day, fast forward a bit and we finally get the keys to the Shack. We open the bad boy up and we find the place is a total wreck. The last Elders got emergency transferred and they had about a days notice to get out of the area. I don't know details. but apparently they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, anyway the apartment was left in a rush, trash everywhere, dishes in the sink, papers all over, chairs overturned...either the past Elders were having a mad party or they had to git real quick.

So yeah, that's how the start of this transfer has gone! Adventures in the communist state of Washington are always exciting.

A little more about the Chewelah ward. We are basically starting at ground zero. The ward boundaries went through a huge overhaul and it cut the ward's size hard core. They had 12 young men and now they have about 3. I'll give some more info later because we're at the library and unexpectedly have to cut time by a half hour so that's cool.

Love to all!!
