This week was pretty solid, we've taught more this week than I have in months of Chewelah haha. We still spend most of the days finding and visiting potentials and stuff like that. Still not the funnest thing to do but we've got some pretty good members up here that help us out by finding some people that we can teach every few days. And they do it the right way thank heavens. They engage in conversation with them first and THEN ask them if they'd like to meet with us. Not just throwing us the name of somebody they haven't talked to in weeks or months.
One lesson I want to talk about in particular that we had yesterday after church. This investigator's name is Brian and holy cow...he's awesome. The story with Brian is he has had some rough past with religion, and has got himself into some trouble and made some bad choices. At one point he had even prayed to God and basically told Him to get lost. But since then he's cleaned his life up and is working as a counseler at a correctional school for troubled kids. But he still hasn't had much of a relationship with God until recently he woke up one night and had the spirit speak to him so strong, telling him it was time to let God back into his life. The next day he was talking to one of his co-workers (a member) and she asked him if he wanted to meet with us. He met with the missionaries and had the first lesson and seemed to like it ok. This was all right before I got into the area. So fast forward to yesterday and we had a meeting with him right after church and he starts out by saying "guys I gotta tell ya, since we met last I've woken up for three nights in a row with just the strongest spiritual feeling. It feels like I'm being spoken to but I don't audibly hear words, but they're just there. Also I've been reading the book of Mormon for a few hours, not really in any particular place, just opening up to a random page, and every time I do I find answers. It's just what I need. I've never felt this before and there are just too many coincidences. I'm convinced, I'm all in, how do I join your church?" We explained that he'd have to meet with us more and that there were certain requirements and he took that well and said awesome I'll do what I need to do. We taught him about the plan of salvation and he was eating it up. I've never seen anyone be so involved and pick it up so fast. After every point he would be so intrigued and he would say things like "thank you, that answered something that I never agreed with in other churches but this makes sense." He mentioned a few times while we were teaching him that it all sounded familiar but he didn't know why. I explained why that was and he said he got goose bumps. I've heard that that can happen but I've never seen anyone actually say it. He asked great questions and was super quick to accept what we taught. It was humbling to see his faith honestly. There's a little part of me that says that it's too good to be true haha but hopefully not because I've never had a lesson like that. Awesome. Definitely more to come on that.
Thank you all for your love and prayers.
Elder Herd
